Personally, if the only concern was image quality, I'd rather get a brand new G1 for A$500 than a brand new G2 for A$1100. Other than those two problems, which I've personally not faced, I don't believe most people ever had any issues with the G1's visuals - it's still a great headset in that regard. I had no noticeable mura, and colours (albeit noticeably less saturated than on the G2) never looked displeasing to me. Keep in mind I never had a problem with my G1, as it was one of the revised, post-launch-fuckup units. I measured the G2 at 94-96 degrees horizontal by 98-100 vertical, versus 96-98 horizontal by 112-114 vertical on the G1 (measurements were done in ROV Tool which only moves in 2 degree increments, hence the 2 degree range given for each measurement). The G2's facial interface is larger and more comfortable, but this keeps your eyes further away from the lenses, resulting in smaller FOV. God rays were not an issue for me in either headset (both do a really good job blocking light, there is no nose gap whatsoever). I didn't notice any difference in black levels between the two. Anything located between 10-20 degrees from the centre of the view looks sharper on the G1.Īt the periphery (outer 20 degrees of FOV or so), both headsets are blurry to the point of large text being unreadable (but this is true for every headset I've ever tried).Ĭolours are noticeably more saturated on the G2. The G2 has a smaller sweet spot, with ghosting and chromatic aberration kicking in a little bit further from the periphery. The G2 is a little sharper when looking dead ahead into the sweet spot. I used the G1 as my main headset for about a year, mostly playing flight sims, and got a G2 last week.
